Strategic Trailblazing

Our Impacts

We were so glad to have Sharon be a part of our team on the Library! at Bown Crossing.  Her knowledge was exemplary.  The project was one of the first LEED version 4 projects in our area, and it was the first time our team, both design and construction, had tackled a LEED project using the version 4 approach.  Because of this, there was a lot of learning curves that we worked through along the way, however with Sharon’s help we always felt that we were on the correct path.  Additionally, I appreciate her approach to focus on points that provide a return on investment to the owner, thus providing the best long-term strides towards sustainability for the building and its occupants.

Sharon is thoughtful, engaging, and well-organized, and working with her is a pleasure.  Our work has been focused on working with cities to develop strategic approaches to conserving energy and reducing emissions.  She is a highly valuable member of our project team, and I would not hesitate to work with her again.

The LEED Certification process is one that is very cumbersome, demands great record keeping and strives for excellence in design and construction.  Aspen Skiing Company is thankful to Sharon Patterson Grant for her leadership and help in achieving LEED Silver Certification for the Limelight Hotel in Ketchum, ID.  We might not have accomplished this without her help.

Thornton Oliver Keller is the largest commercial real estate firm in Idaho.  We manage over 5.5 million square feet and complete hundreds of commercial sales and leases.  When TOK wanted their team to learn how to manage and lease LEED certified buildings as well as complete a pilot deep energy retrofit, we turned to Greensteps.  Suzie, Sharon and Ken bring the expertise, the relationships and the patience to ensure any organization can master the complex world of “sustainable” building development and management.  They were our coaches for the Kilowatt Crackdown Competition, and were helpful in guiding our buildings to achieve significant energy savings.
-Michael J. Ballantyne, CCIM, SIOR, Managing Partner, Thornton Oliver Keller
With Sharon's guidance, Cardona, a 48-unit apartment community we constructed in Chubbuck, Idaho, was the first multifamily project to achieve LEED platinum certification in the State of Idaho.  For the past decade, Sharon's counsel has been materially important to all of our multifamily developments constructed since then.  Further, when we decided to form a nonprofit tax-exempt organization focusing on affordable housing, Sharon was at the top of the list.  She thankfully said yes, and has been an extremely valuable board member of Northwest Integrity Housing Co.  Sharon has my highest and unqualified recommendation.

Kilowatt Crackdown Competition for 47 commercial office buildings in Boise.  GreenSteps was selected as the exclusive coaching team for the Boise Kilowatt Crackdown, the premier commercial building energy competition sponsored by Idaho Power, BOMA and NEEA Better Bricks.  The goal was to help each of the buildings to use less energy and reduce operating costs.  The three “Energy Coaches” – Ken, Sharon and Suzie – provided guidance on benchmarking building energy use and developing energy saving initiatives for each building based on best practices learned over their combined decades of experience in energy efficiency.
